![]() I still remember when our family first connected to the internet through “dial-up” (remember that sound?). Then came cable, and by 2008, when my oldest graduated from high school, she left home with her very own flip phone! In many ways, technology was introduced kindly and gradually to my kids' generation. They spent hours outdoors riding bikes and playing with the neighborhood kids—most of whom also didn’t have much technology at home. “Coming over to play” was just part of daily life. Fast forward nearly 25 years, and things look very different. Today, technology isn’t just a helpful tool—it’s ever-present, constantly demanding our attention, and often bringing toxic influences and ideas into our homes. Knowing that as parents, we have the God-given authority to shape how it’s used in our homes, I set out searching for a resource that could help families navigate this world, and I was so encouraged to discover ScreenStrong. |
What is SCREENSTRONG? Kids' Brains & Screens |
What is ScreenStrong? ScreenStrong is a non-profit whose mission is to empower families to prevent screen addiction and reclaim kids from harmful screen use like social media, gaming, and exposure to online content. It’s not about being screen-free—it’s about replacing toxic screen habits with healthy activities, life skills, and meaningful family time. The result? Strong kids. Strong families. After much research, I discovered that ScreenStrong not only offers great tools on their website but also provides curriculum. I dug deeper, signed up for one of their trainings, and kept researching. The more I learned, the more confident I became that this organization genuinely wants to equip parents with solid information—empowering them to make personalized choices that help keep toxic screen use out of their homes. Putting myself in the shoes of a parent with children at home, I decided to order a couple of copies of their book Kids' Brains & Screens and the Student Curriculum. As I read through the material, I was so pleased—it’s engaging, practical, and a great book for kids to read on their own, and together as a family. So, I ordered more to make them available right here at our resource center. This issue is so important—not just for parents in general, but especially for homeschooling families. How can we teach our children effectively if toxic screens are threatening to take over our kids minds and hearts? Let’s spread the word about this vital topic—within the homeschool community, among neighbors, friends, and extended family.
