COVENANT CLASS SCHOLARSHIP FUND GUIDELINES AND POLICIES:
PURPOSE: To provide tuition assistance for families taking Covenant Classes who fit the following categories:
- Financial need: without assistance, taking classes would be impossible or a hardship.
- Students of CHSRC teachers needing assistance.
- Students of families contributing volunteer time to CHSRC or H.O.M.E School Books and Resources who need assistance.
FUNDING SOURCES:
- Individual donations. Any amount may be given by any individual in any state, and is all tax deductible in accordance with the law, since CHSRC is a 501 (c ) 3 organization.
- Corporate donations. Any amount may be given by any business or corporation, and is all tax deductible in accordance with the law, since CHSRC is a 501 (c ) 3 organization.
- A portion from membership fees, enrollment fees and/or bookstore sales as determined by the financial status of CHSRC and HSBR and voted on by the board.
AWARD POLICIES:
1 All potential recipients must fill out an application.
2 The Scholarship Committee will evaluate applicants based on the categories of need mentioned in the Purpose.
3 Priorities for funding will be based on a point system taking into account need, teacher or volunteer status, number of students in the family taking CHSRC classes, and tuition for classes. Member participation in CHSRC will also be assessed (i.e. effort put into class attendance and
coursework, promptness in carrying out responsibilities with CHSRC etc.)
4 Award amounts will be based on:
a Amount in fund
b Points earned by family and
c Amount of donations recruited by recipient family
5. Award times: Annually in August and as funds become available throughout the year.
6. Families may recruit donors to the fund throughout the year. Anyone may donate to the fund and receive a tax receipt. Students may be recommended as recipients for the monies, but
parents may not recommend their own children. While the committee is not bound to follow the recommendations, every effort will be made to award the funds according to the donors' wishes. Students are not guaranteed to receive specific funds until the decision of the committee has been made. Student recommendation information should be on the Donor information sheet and not
on the check.
7. Parents may contribute to the scholarship general fund and receive a tax donation receipt.
8. The committee will make every effort to take into consideration all the factors for each family, and make awards in a fair and ethical manner.
9. The decisions of the committee will be final, and will be made within one week of receiving all the paperwork. At that time, A letter will be sent to the family indicating the total amount due for the classes, scholarship amount, and the remaining family portion. A monthly payment schedule for the balance will be drawn up, and put on
record.
If the fund award does not cover all the family's need, requests for additional funds and/or recruitment of additional donations to the fund may be made as needed. If no further funds are available, the family will need to make arrangements with CHSRC to see that the balance is paid according to the schedule.
10. If money is allocated to a certain student or family, and is not all used, that amount may be carried forward for that family into the next school year. If the designated student no longer attends CHSRC classes, the collected money may be transferred to another student in the family. If the family no longer attends, the donation will revert to the general
scholarship fund.
11. Scholarships may be used for on-site or off-site CHSRC classes.
