INDIVIDUAL &
OFF-SITE TESTING INFORMATION
Recognition for Achievement and Continuing Education
For several years, Covenant Home School Resource Center has offered IOWA testing in locations around Maricopa County. This has been hugely appreciated by support groups who are in more distant valley locations.
Why have Covenant Home School Resource Center come to your location to do testing?
Your workload is tremendously cut down.
Your group coordinator does the following:
Arranges for a location (church, meeting room, hall, or other suitable place and coordinates a date with CHSRC.
Contacts volunteers to help set up the tables and chairs and clean up afterwards
Collects the money and registration forms from participants and mails them to CHSRC.
Stays in contact with the Testing Coordinator regarding new testers, facility information, issues that need to be handled etc.
CHSRC Testing Coordinator does the following:
Schedules the testing
Advertises the test date and location
Procures the testing materials
Collects the registrations from the group coordinator
Sends out the practice tests
Completes the student information on the test forms
Maintains contact with the group coordinator on the number of sign-ups
Sets up the floor plan for the arrangement of students
Creates name place tags for the students
Brings all the testing supplies (even pencils!)
Mails in the test materials
Receives and checks all the test results
Verifies the students who are eligible for the Home School Honor Societies and notifies the families and the Honor Societies
Mails all the test results back to the families
Maintains a copy of the test results in case the family ever needs a duplicate copy
Your costs are substantially reduced over doing the testing on your own.
Homeschoolers may order tests directly through Bob Jones University Press if they meet the requirements for testing. The price of the tests is $40.00 each plus shipping both ways.
The CHSRC price is $26 for CHSRC members at our on-site locations, and $31 for non-members. This includes the testing materials, the scoring and the shipping in all directions.
For Off-site testing, we do add on a travel and off-site administration fee based on the number of students and the distance traveled, and it is usually under $5.00 per
student additional.
Each family saves the cost of gas that would be incurred if they each came to our location.
What tests and test portions are available for off-site locations?
At this time, we are only offering the IOWA test off-site since it much easier to administrate. For this one, the 3rd-8th graders can all be in the same room, doing the same portions at the same time. High schoolers also can be grouped together. The Stanford requires that all the grades from K-8 be separated, which requires many more rooms and proctors. This is often unreasonable in terms of
room space and personnel available.
The full IOWA test, including science and social studies may be used for off-site locations. If a group only wanted the basic core, we can accommodate that, but the pricing is still the same since our costs are still the
same for administration and scoring.
Grades 3-12 can be tested at the off-site locations. Two rooms would be needed for these ages, unless there is an exceptionally large enrollment.
Grades K-2 most likely won't be offered unless a group comes to us at the negotiating stage with a minimum of 5 students in each of these grades who are committed to testing. These grades each need a proctor and a separate room.
How soon can we begin setting up details if we want to have testing at our location?
The fall is a great time to start talking with us about dates and a place! The Testing Coordinator's schedule fills up quickly, and we need time to get the word out to get the numbers up to the minimum.
Requests should be made no later than February for the spring months.
If we already have the minimum number of students, can we close the registration?
The testing Coordinator will work out arrangements with the group coordinator. Often, there are other people in your area who would love to be able to test close to home, and we would like to give them an opportunity if it is feasible, and the space allows.
Sometimes, a registered student won't be able to attend, and then the numbers may fall below the minimum. It is always good to try to sign up a few more than the minimum.
How can we let CHSRC know of our interest in holding an off-site testing?
Fill out this form, which will be emailed to the Testing Coordinator, Dolly Moll, and she will get back with you. You may also email her directly with any questions or call the office and leave a message, 602-277-3497.
